New York-based production duo Zanzo are proud to announce their debut EP titled ‘Musk’ to be released through the label Internet and Weed on July 9, 2021.

Zanzo is a duo consisting of Brooklyn, NY based producer Hisham Akira Bharoocha (aka YOKUBARI) and Queens, NY based producer Daniel D'Errico. Zanzo in Japanese means afterimage or imprint.

The sound of ‘Musk’ has deep roots beginning with both Bharoocha and D’Errico’s drumming backgrounds. D’Errico studied and focuses on Brazilian / African drumming and Bharoocha has been on the trap kit infusing his Japanese / Myanmar background into his style for many years. The sounds of New York City have also been a huge inspiration for both of them- hearing all genres of music playing out of distorted car stereo systems, sounds from the street and in the subway. Fuse this with their hybrid drumming background and their love for left field club music and you have their first release as a production duo.

As a whole ‘Musk’ has Global Bass at its nucleus but takes that genre on a psychedelic journey, passing through dimensions existing in the past and the future. It mutates as it absorbs sounds through a time machine, stretching and morphing until it comes back into 2021 as an aggressive yet playful and propulsive sonic vessel.

The track ‘Sacred Tooth’ makes one imagine a dying rain forest being taken over by humanoid cyborgs while highly advanced gorillas fight to protect their land. ‘Slug Dance’ paints an image of a slug who has crawled onto Psilocybin and must battle with its vivid inner demons until the blitzkrieg goes through a transmutation, turning into a slow dance at a microscopic carnival. ‘The Poacher’ is the soundtrack to a safari gone awry. ‘Tanken’ which means exploration or expedition in Japanese, acts as a landing pad on a distant island after an all consuming, turbulent auditory voyage.
